Pizza Sauce

Makes enough sauce for about 3 pizza nights and pairs perfectly with my pizza crust recipe. Seasoning measurements are approximate; adjust to taste. Swap the garlic powder for fresh garlic and cook with the onions if you fw garlic like that.

Btw most olive oil is probably fake; I try to buy EVOO with a singular origin.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1/4 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 habaneros, chopped (if you're a heatseeker)
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Crush the fennel seeds and toast them in a pot with the olive oil at medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until tender, about 10 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the crushed tomatoes and seasonings (including peppers if you want it spicy), and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Taste the sauce and see if you'd like to adjust anything. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little water.
  5. Store excess sauce in the freezer; should be good for at least a month or two.
